2018 Met Gala Heavenly Closet of Couture
This Monday bank holiday may have been all about the parties, drinks and sunshine but by the next morning. Monday 7th May was all about the glitz and innovation behind a number of celebrity icons, and designers for the 2018 Met Gala. The fundraising benefit took place in New York at The Metropolitan Museum of Art.
From the theme to the best looks and who designed what, keep your eyes peeled for the annual Oscars alternative fashion event that you wish you had a front row seat at. This year’s exhibition theme took religion to the heart and heights in high fashion. Presenting “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination. Vogue Editor in Chief, fashion guru Anna Wintour stood as the annual Chair of the Met Gala, whilst Donatella Versace, Rihanna and Amal Clooney co-chaired as hosts of the affair for the 70th Anniversary.
When you have to take your co-chair position seriously and let them know you can pope that look? Bad gal Ri Ri did that in Margiela and dazzled her version of a nun’s habit by Stephen Jones.
Nicki Minaj went for a red velvet ombre dress accessorised with a veil made of red and black crucifixes right on theme by Oscar de la Ranta.
Sarah Jessica Parker just like her iconic character “Carrie” took the spotlight with her cathedral in the city look which was inspired by an actual cathedral.
Don’t let me tell ya how Donatella cape-tivated Chadwick Boseman ‘s Versace suit screams “The king is here”. Unlike many male celebrities Chadwick baptised the red carpet with his look and made a statement.
I had to leave the best till last but there is no question that the theme this year has certainly been controversial by far.
